PLACE

Araraquara-SP

ABOUT THE EVENT

The organization of the 17th edition of the Araraquara Dance Festival will have the dancer Profª Drª Gilsamara Moura as the event's curator. The festival will be held, in principle, between September 9th and 17th, in different spaces of the city.

Gilsamara Moura, who was president of Fundart and creator of the festival in its first eight editions, arrives sharp and full of ideas to enhance the actions of the event. Professor of the Masters in Dance and PhD in Performing Arts at the Federal University of Bahia, the dancer has already designed the entire format of the festival in order to resume the event's notoriety.

For that, in a few days in Araraquara, he contacted directors, teachers, students and friends in order to guarantee a great return to the Festival, since in the last editions it has undergone a visible reduction of public. Students from the Municipal Dance School Iracema Nogueira, Cultural Workshops, as well as partners Sesc Araraquara and SESI Araraquara were not left out.

Gilsamara hopes to activate and resume the involvement of professionals with the festival, promoting the interest of the city's public in the programmed activities. The idea is also to value the people of the city.

The curator proposes a program that includes an arts training axis for teachers in academies, Cultural Workshops, EMD - among others interested in general. “I propose a week with every morning of training and socializing among the professionals. There will be 40 hours of course, certified by the Federal University of Bahia ”, he points out.

With the theme “Afro Indigenous Culture”, the curator hopes to emphasize Popular and Contemporary Culture in training. “We will have two masters who will guide this training”, he says referring to UFBA professors who were invited to the event. “They will do the axis of the work with the theme of Art, and not specifically of Dance. Thus, the proposal serves more people: we want to unite to bring together educators and stakeholders from various artistic languages ”, he justifies.

In addition to training in the morning, the plan will include dance workshops in the afternoon and artistic performances in the evening. The program is being prepared and there are already some names and ideas proposed, which should be released soon. It is known that a procession, with drums and strings, should be produced, with popular participation, for the opening of the festival (it will be up to the spontaneous participation of the city's artists, integrating dancers, musicians, actors and visual artists). Shows from the academies, video dance, as well as a night with presentations by artists and independent groups and a commemorative party should also be part of the program.

Organized by the Municipality of Araraquara, through the Municipal Secretary of Culture and Fundart, the Festival will have the support of partners Sesc Araraquara and SESI Araraquara and will have all free activities.
